Summer Technology Camp, Warri.

Digital technology has changed numerous activities in the world and continues to do so. The digital revolution has already matured in developed countries. However, developing countries, especially in Africa, are yet to realize the full potential of the benefits of technology. It is true that Africa has in recent years made tremendous progress from being a technological desert to a growing technological forest. Here in the Niger-Delta, students access technology basically via the use of their phones majorly and a little few of this digital natives know how to use a computer. Gender-wise, the boys are more interested in ICT than the ladies and this does not encourage gender equality. This is why we at THE VISIONARIES ACADEMY have come up with the Summer Technology Camp and other ICT related concepts geared at training these young people about the use of ICT and how to take it more like a career.

THE CONCEPT

The first edition of the Summer Technology Camp was held at two local government areas in Delta State, Uvwie LGA and Warri South LGA with a total participation of 616 participants who participated all for free. Surprisingly, the females were 398 while the male participants were 218. Most interestingly, we inaugurated ICT ambassadors in all the schools that participated in order for them to go back to their schools and train more people about what they have learnt. This we did to enable us keep communication with them and also invite them to other programs organized by our organization. The purpose of the Summer Tech Camp is directed towards engaging the kids during the holiday and to save them from the streets.

This summer, we intend to still maintain the regions we have  but give more people the opportunity yo learn so we have gone to ALL the schools in the region to get the proposed participants registered like we normally do. The Summer Tech Camp will feature Innovation and Creativity competitions majorly on Film-Screening and Mobile opportunities. The Summer Tech Camp is proposed to commence August 8 and terminate by August 20, 2011 with a certificate presentation.

The Development Information Centre (a project of United Nations Information Centre and World bank)  has agreed to partner with us on this initiative though without funding but will be providing Mainstream publicity, technical support, facilitators, souvenirs, Certificates for participants and amazingly, the International Year of the Youth for Nigeria will be celebrated at the Summer Technology Camp.

On the 12th of August, The International Year of the Youths will be held as a public youth event and will feature young leading Nigerians including: Chude Jideonwo of The Future Awards, Celestine Omin, Winner, Google Chrome Extention Challenge, Ogaga Maxwell, URI African Ambassador. This is a public event and all are cordially invited.

Another Exciting Summer event: The Taymat Culture Festival

Summer is always an exciting time for families, friends, relatives and spouses to share more experience together and learn more during the holidays. Here in Nigeria, its a time for the cream de la cream of the society to travel with their families to enjoy the break, churches to get involved in more programs, schools to present their summer packages and for us in Warri to have our Summer Technology Camp. As events unfolds across the world, Am glad to write about an amazing one focused on culture, art and music in such a way to produce and utilize more talents locally and internationally especially with young people. It was the Taymat Culture Festival.

The Taymat Culture Festival is a socio-cultural event initiated by the Municipal Council of Ait Ishaq, in partnership with the Forum of Civil Society and Moroccans living abroad. This event has the noble vision to enhance the cultural heritage and defend the environment of the area.
The 2nd edition of “Taymatt Culture Festival” is a grouping of humanitarian values of citizenship, respect for the environment and equitable development.
The choice of the name “TAYMAT” has special significance, as TAYMAT, the theme of the festival, is an Amazing name for “fraternidad”. The choice of such a title shows the high level of solidarity between the components of Moroccan society and also a strong link to culture and nature as a great wealth of the region.
This festival which took place in Ait ISHAQ village, which is located in the heart of the famous Atlas Mountains during the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd of July 2011. under the theme :” sustainable development is conditional on the involvement of the local talents” which is  one of the exciting reasons I chose to blog on this had a lot of colorful presentations that will make you love life, family and culture.

Objectives of the event :

- Promote and foster the exchange and know-how of the people and their culture.
- Promote a sense of citizenship.
- Encourage the development of rural tourism in the region and improve environmental education within the community This annual event of festival tayymat, attended by more than 16 “Sribt” mean “horsemen team” from various villages in the region, 200 horsemen dressed in traditional cloths rich in color where the sublime has competed with the ingenuity, beauty through this edition, the festival has fully enrolled a view of originality and heritage reflection .
The performances Fantasia allowed viewers to grasp the deep sense of communion between man and horse and attend an extraordinary exercise where horsemen engage in acrobatics and unload their “moukahla” rifle powder at a gallop in perfect sync and this is just as the way you see it in action Movies.

Besides there are many workshops during the festival in order to give the chance the local talents to be involved in the management of the community.
